How does Allegra work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Allegra belongs to a group of drugs called H1-histamine receptor blockers and works by relieving allergic symptoms. The prpearation dose not exert anticholinergic or antiadrenergic activity. The drug does not cross the blood-brain barrier thus cause sedation. The effects of the preparation can be monitored within an hour after its administration.

Which conditions are treated with Fexofenadine?

The preparation is indicated in treatment of the following:

• Symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis
• Symptomatic treatment of chronic idiopathic hives

What should a patient know before using Allegra?

The Fexofenadine should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding period
• Young age prior to 6 years

The preparation should be used with caution in:

• Chronic renal failure
• Elderly patients

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Allegra include:

• CNS: headaches, somnolence, dizziness, weakness
• Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, dyspepsia
• Other: dysmenorrhea

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Fexofenadine?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Antibiotics
• Antimycotics
• Antacids

Tell your doctor about all the herbal preparations as well as prescription drugs that you are currently taking even if they are not on the list.
