How does Peritol work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Peritol is H1-histamine receptor blocker with anti-serotonin activity. By blocking H1 histamine receptors Peritol helps prevent and relieve allergy symptoms. It exerts antipruritic, anti-exudative, anticholinergic and sedative action. Peritol stimulates appetite, blocks hypersecretion of somatotropin in acromegaly and secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone in patients with Itsenko-Cushing syndrome.

Which conditions are treated with Peritol?

  • Allergic diseases (hives, hay fever, Quincke's edema, serum sickness)
  • Skin diseases (contact dermatitis and toxicodermia, neurodermia, eczema)
  • Migraine
  • Vasomotor rhinitis
  • Allergic reactions on drugs, blood transfusion
  • Anorexia
  • Chronic pancreatitis (complex treatment)
  • Bronchial asthma

What should a patient know before using Peritol?

The Peritol should not be used in cases of:

  • Glaucoma
  • Urine retention
  • Benign hyperplasia of prostate gland
  • Predisposition to edemas
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Children under 6 months
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients

The medication should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to H1-histamine receptor blockers.

  • Peitol enhances the effects the tricyclic antidepressants
  • Peritol potentates the effects of NSAID's, opioid pain killers, tranquilizers
