How does Amoxicillin work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic which exerts bactericidal effects and possesses a broad spectrum of action against different types of gram-positive and negative bacteria. The preparation works by interfering in the synthesis of peptidoglycan in the period of replication and growth of the bacterial cell thus causing its lysis. Bacterial strains that produce penicillinase are resistant to the effects of amoxicillin.

Which conditions are treated with Amoxicillin?

The preparation is indicated in treatment of the disease caused by susceptible bacteria:

• Respiratory and ENT organ infections
• Urogenital system infections
• Abdominal infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Gastrointestinal infections

What should a patient know before using Amoxicillin?

The Amoxicillin should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations

The preparation should be used with caution in:

• Liver failure
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding period
• Specific gastrointestinal disease

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Amoxicillin include:

• Allergic reactions
• Gastrointestinal tract: disbacteriosis, change of taste, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomatitis, glossitis, pseudomembrane enterocollitis.
• CNS: agitation, anxiety, insomnia, ataxia, confusion, changes in behavior, depression, peripheral neuropathy, headache, dizziness, seizures
• Other: difficulty breathing, tachycardia, interstitial nephritis, candidamycosis, development of super-infection.
