How does Suprax work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Suprax is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic of the III generation. The drug exerts antibacterial, bactericidal effects. The preparation works by inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycane - the main structural element of bacterial cellular wall. The preparation is resistan to the effects of beta-lactamase and is active against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and negative bacteria.

Which conditions are treated with Cefixime?

The preparation is effective in treatment of infectious-inflammatory disease caused by susceptble bacteria:

• Pharyngitis
• Tonsillitis
• Sinusitis
• Acute and chronic bronchitis
• Middle otitis
• Uncomplicated urogenital infections including gonorrhea

What should a patient know before using Suprax?

The Cefixime should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation or to other cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics
• Young age
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

Take extreme caution in:

• Gastrointestinal disorders

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Suprax include:

• CNS and Sensory organs: headache, dizziness
• Haemopoietic system: eoinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, hemolytic anemia
• Gastrointestinal tract: stomatitis, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
• Urogenital system: increased levels of nitrogen, creatine, interstitial nephritis
• Allergic reactions
• Other: genital mycosis, vaginitis, candidosis

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Cefixime?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Anticonvulsants
