How does Celexa work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Celexa belongs to a group of drugs called SSRI selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The preparation does not affect histamine, m-choline and adrenoreceptors.

Which conditions are treated with Citalopram?

The preparation is used in treatment of:

• Depressions of different etiology
• Panic disorders
• Obsessive-compulsive disorders

What should a patient know before using Celexa?

The Citalopram should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
• Pregnancy
• Lactation period

The drug should be used with caution in:

• Severe renal or liver failure
• Patients with decreased cardiac rate
• Young children
• Use of MAO inhibitors
• The preparation may affect the ability of individuals to operate machinery and decrease their concentration.

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Celexa include:

• Gastrointestinal tract: dry mouth, nausea
• CNS: somnolence, tremor, in exceptional cases seizures
• Cardiovascular system: decreased cardiac rate
• Other: increased sweating

It is not necessary that the side effects will manifest in an individual but the possibility still exist. For more information please consult your health care provider.

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Citalopram?

The drug is affected by the following:

• MAO inhibitors
• Anticonvulsants
• H2-histamine receptor blockers
• Serotonergic preparations
