The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Zoloft manufactured by Thaemo Pharma is available under commercial name Sate.

How does Zoloft work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Zoloft belongs to a group of drugs called antidepressants. The drug works by selectively inhibiting serotonin reuptake. The preparation has not shown any affinity to other receptors. The drug does not cause drug dependence nor exerts m-cholinoblocking or cardiotoxic effects. Does not increase body weight.

Which conditions are treated with Sertraline?

The preparation is used in:

• Treatment and prophylaxis of different depression severity, including depression accompanied by anxiety and suicidal thoughts
• Neurotic and somatotropic depressions
• Post-traumatic stress disorders
• Obsessive compulsive disorders
• Panic attacks and etc.
• Nervous bulimia, anorexia, chronic pain syndrome

What should a patient know before using Zoloft?

The Sertraline should not be used in cases of:

• Use of MAO inhibitors
• Epilepsy
• Young age prior to 6 years
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
• Exert caution when operating machinery or performing tasks that require increased concentration when under the influence of sertraline

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Zoloft include:

• Dry mouth, increased sweating, somnolence, headache, dizziness, tremor, insomnia, agitation, hypomania, mania, decreased appetite, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, decreased body weight.

Other less common adverse effect include:

• Weakness, flushing, vision impairment, ejaculation disorders, decreased libido.
• Dyskinesia, extrapyramidal disorders, seizures, menses changes, galactorrhea, skin rash

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Sertraline?

The drug is affected by the following:

• MAO inhibitors
• Antiepileptics
• Anticoagulants
• H2-histamine receptor blockers
• Other antidepressants

Tell your doctor about all the herbal preparations as well as prescription drugs that you are currently taking even if they are not on the list.
