Here are the most common indications for Rocephin.
Rocephin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for IV or IM administration to fight bacterial infections in humans and animals. Doctors should be careful when prescribing Rocephin and make sure they're dealing with a bacterial infection, rather than a viral infection. This is important, because Rocephin can't cure viral infections.
Irrespective of the dosage or of the type of solution, Rocephin is intended for direct (rather than oral) administration. This increases its strength and effectiveness but also implies that the system will be more affected than in the case of common oral antibiotics. Any unused solution of Rocephin must be discarded, because the drug is not stable for long at room temperature.
Here are the most common indications for Rocephin. This list is for informational purposes only: consult your doctor for further information on the topic.
In some of the cases above (such as otitis media), only one dose of Rocephin is necessary. This dose can be considered the equivalent of a ten-day treatment with antibiotics taken orally. So, even if the dose if higher and it can affect the body significantly, it is still better (e.g. for the digestive system) than taking antibiotic tablets for ten days. In any of the situations, your doctor will advise you which solution works best for you.
