How does Pulmicort generic work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Generic Pulmicort contains the active ingredient Budesonide that belongs to a group of medications called inhaled glucocorticoids. In recommended doses, budesonide possesses anti-inflammatory action, relieves asthma symptoms, reduces edema of the bronchial mucous lining, mucous production, formation of sputum and hyperactivity of the airways. Budesonide is well tolerated in prolonged treatment and does not possess mineralocorticoid activity.

Which conditions are treated with generic Pulmicort?

The medication is indicated for:

• Bronchial asthma
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

What should a patient know before using generic Pulmicort?

Make sure to let your doctor know if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Tuberculosis
• Not had chickenpox or the measles
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Allergic reaction to any of the medication ingredients
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

Pulmicort inhaler should be used with caution in patients with active form of lung tuberculosis, fungal, viral and bacterial infection of the respiratory system, liver cirrhosis.

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of generic Pulmicort include:

• Irritation of the nasal mucous lining, rhinorrhea
• Cough
• Viral infection
• Fungal infection
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Stomach pain
• Infections of the eyes
• Nasal bleedings
• Conjunctivitis

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with generic Pulmicort?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Certain antibiotics such as macrolides, izoniazid, Telithromycin
• Certain anti fungals such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, miconazole
• Protease inhibitors

Tell your doctor about all the herbal preparations as well as prescription drugs that you are currently taking even if they are not on the list.
