Generic Spiriva inhaler contains the active ingredient Tiotropium Bromide. Tiotropium Bromide is anticholinergic medication (m-choline receptors blocker) with long-acting effect. Tiotropium Bromide possesses an affinity to different types of muscarinic receptors. By inhibiting M3 choline receptors in the airways, the medication relaxes smooth muscle and causes bronchodilation. Bronchodilating effect depends on the dose.

Which conditions are treated with generic Spiriva?

Tiotropium Bromide inhaler is used as an maintaining therapy of patients with chronic obstructive lung disease including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Generic Spiriva is not a fast-acting asthma medication. It can not replace fast-acting rescue inhalers.

What should a patient know before using generic Spiriva?

The generic Spiriva should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to Tiotropium Bromide inhaler or other components of the medication
• Hypersensitivity to atropine and its derivatives
• Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
• Glaucoma
• Enlarged prostate gland
• Severe bladder diseases
• Severe kidney diseases
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of generic Spiriva include:

• Infections of the upper respiratory system
• Dry mouth
• Inflammation of the oral cavity
• Sinus infections
• Sore throat
• Bladder infections

Other common Tiotropium Bromide side effects include: rhinorrhea, constipation, heartburn, muscle pain, yeast infection, nasal bleedings.

Less common generic Spiriva side effects include: leg pain, voice changes, GERD, bone pain, depression, shingles
