How does Logest work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Logest is a monophase combined low-dose estrogen-gestagen oral contraceptive. Logest inhibits the secretion of pituitary gonadotrophic hormones, inhibits the maturation of follicles, suppresses ovulation, increases the viscosity of cervical mucus and impedes the penetration of sperm into the uterus.

Which conditions are treated with Logest?

• contraception (prevention of unwanted pregnancy)

What should a patient know before using Logest?

Logest should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any component of Logest
• Venous and arterial thrombosis and embolism (thrombotic or embolic events)
• States prior thrombosis
• Severe or multiple risk factors of venous or arterial thrombosis
• Migraine with focal neurological symptoms, including history
• Diabetes mellitus with vascular disorders
• Uncontrolled arterial hypertension
• Pancreatitis with severe hypertriglyceridemia, including history
• Jaundice, severe liver disease, hepatic failure
• Benign or malignant liver tumors present or in history
• Identified hormone-dependent malignant tumors of genital organs and mammary glands (including history) or suspicion on them
• Vaginal bleeding of unknown origin
• Long-lasting immobilization
• Major surgery, surgery on the legs, extensive injuries
• Pregnancy (diagnosed or suspected) and lactation

Logest must be prescribed with caution in cases of:

• Obesity, hyperlipidemia
• Thrombophlebitis of superficial veins
• Varicose veins
• Otosclerosis with deterioration of hearing
• Idiopathic jaundice or pruritus during the previous pregnancy
• Migraines
• Congenital hyperbilirubinemia
• Diabetes mellitus
• Systemic lupus erythematosus
• Hemolytic uremic syndrome
• Crohn's disease
• Sickle-cell anemia
• Arterial hypertension
• Renal dysfunction
• Uterine fibroid
• Multiple sclerosis
• Epilepsy
• Porphyria
• Chronic cystic mastitis
• Severe depression in history

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Logest include:

• digestive system: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cholestatic jaundice
• reproductive and endocrine system: changes in vaginal secretion, intermenstrual spotting, breakthrough uterine bleeding, feeling of tension in the mammary glands, breast enlargement, changes of body weight and libido
• nervous system: emotional lability, low mood, depression, headaches, migraines, fatigue, blurred vision
• allergic and dermatological reactions: skin rash, itching, nodular erythema, multiforme erythema
• other: chloasma (especially in women with a history of chloasma of pregnant women), poor tolerance to contact lenses, fluid retention in the body

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Logest?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Sulfonamides
• Pyrazolone derivatives
• Liver enzymes inductors
• Antibiotics
• Hypoglycemic agents
• Indirect anticoagulants

Tell your doctor about all the herbal preparations as well as prescription drugs that you are currently taking even if they are not on the list.

Important information for the patient: Logest is supplied for individual use. Do not use it to treat other conditions not listed in the leaflet. Keep the product out of children reach. Do not reuse any disposable materials if supplied with the preparation.
