Diabetes mellitus is a group of endocrine disease that are developed due to partial or absolute insufficiency of insulin or disorder that decreases interactions between insulin and organism cells, due to which a stable increase of sugar in the blood can be monitored(hyperglycemia). The disease is characterized by chronic development and affection of other endocrine systems.

There are different forms of diabetes which include:

• I-type diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes - a condition which is characterized by insufficiency of insulin production in the organism
• II-type diabetes - or non-insulin dependent diabetes - caused by inability of cells to interact with insulin
• Sometimes a III form of diabetes is distinguished it includes specific forms that may not be refered to first two groups. In clinical practice two types of diabetes symptoms are distinguished: main and secondary.

Main symptoms include:

• Polyuria - increased urine release, caused by increase of osmolar pressure
• Polydipsia - excessive thirst
• Polyphagia- increased food consumption
• Weight loss

The main symptoms are more specific for the I type diabetes and are experienced acutely - as the patient may identify the time when they appeared. Secondary symptoms include:

• Skin and mucous membrane itching
• Dry mouth
• Overall muscle weakness
• Headache
• Skin inflammation
• Vision impairment
• Dimethyl ketone in urine as a sign of fat catabolism in I type diabetes
