Cozaar belongs to the group of antihypertensive drugs called angiotensin II receptors blockers. Cozaar works by blocking the binding of angiotensin to the receptors. Angiotensin is copounds that exerts vasoconstrictive action and stimulates the activity of aldosterone. Cozaar reduces a peripheral resistance, noradrenaline and aldosterone concentration in the blood, blood pressure in pulmonary circulation. Cozaar also reduces afterload and provides moderate diuretic effect, prevents myocardial hypertrophy development, increases tolerance to physical exercises in the patients with chronic heart failure.
