Microzide belongs to a group of preparations called diuretics. It reduces Na+ absorption, increases K+, hydrogen carbonates and phosphates excretion with the urine. The medication does not act on acid-base balance, increases Mg2+ excretion from the organism and maintains the constant level of Ca2+ ions in the organism. The drug decreases high blood pressure via lowering a blood volume(diuretic effect).
