Active Ingredients:

  • Tamsulosin HCL

How does Flomax work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Flomax is an α1 adrenoreceptor blocker . The preparation selectively blocks postsynaptic alpha adrenoreceptors in the smooth muscles of the prostate gland and neck of the urinary bladder. As a result the tone of the smooth muscle is decreased thus the outflow of urine is facilitated. At the same time the symptoms of obstruction and irritation are also relieved. The therapeutic effect of the preparation is achieved within 2 weeks after the treatment initiation. The effects on systemic arterial pressure are insignificant when due to a low degree of affinity of Tamsulosin to Alpha-1b-adrenoreceptors.
