How does Zyban work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Bupropion belongs to a group of drugs called antidepressants. The drug works by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamione. The drug exerts stimulating effect unlike may antidepressants and may restore normal libido in patients taking other antidepressants.

Which conditions are treated with Bupropion?

The preparation may be used in treatment of:

• Different types of depression
• Seasonal depression
• Help patients stop smoking(decreased dosages)

What should a patient know before using Zyban?

The Bupropion should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
• Epilepsy
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
• Anorexia
• Bulimia
• Alcohol addiction

The preparation should be taken with caution in:

• Diabetes
• Liver or kidney failure
• Heart disease
• Hypertension
• Brain or spine tumors
• During the use of Bupropion (Zyban) exert extreme caution when performing tasks that require concentration or speed of psycho-motor reactions.

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Zyban include:

• Somnolence
• Agitation
• Xerostomia
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Partial seizures
• Loss of weight
• Constipation
• Increased sweating

Other rare, but serious side-effects include:

• Seizures
• Confusion
• Hallucinations
• Fear
• Fever
• Allergic reactions
• Chest pain
• Muscle or joint pain
• Changes of heartbeat
