How does Aciphex work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Aciphex is an antiulcer agent which belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors. Rabeprazole is the active ingredient of the medication. Pariet blocks the final stage of hydrochloric acid secretion reducing content of bazal and stimulated secretion independent of the irritant nature. It possesses high lipophilicity, easily penetrates into parietal cells and concentrates there exerting cytoprotective effects and increasing bicarbonate secretion. Aciphex does not affect the central nervous system function, cardio-vascular and respiratory system.

Which conditions are treated with Rabeprazole?

Pariet is used to treat the following conditions:

• Gastric and duodenal ulcer,
• Reflux esophagitis,
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Stress induced ulcer

What should a patient know before using Aciphex?

Before the beginning of the treatment the patient should be checked for malignant stomach neoplasia. The patient with liver failure should use the drug with caution. Avoid driving or other tasks which require increased attention in case of drowsiness appearance.

The patient must not use Aciphex in:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Rabeprazole include:

• Nausea, constipations or diarrhea, stomach pain, flatulence, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, skin rash, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia; pharyngitis, rhinitis, asthenia, backache, myodynia, xerostomia.
• Next side effects can be caused very rarely: decrease of appetite, increase of body weight, depression, vision and taste disorders, hyperhidrosis.

It is not necessary that the side effects will manifest in an individual but the possibility still exist. For more information please consult your health care provider.

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Aciphex?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Antifungals
• Cardiac glycosides
• Indirect anticoagulants
• Anticonvulsants
• Anti asthma drugs
• Antiepileptics

Tell your doctor about all the herbal preparations as well as prescription drugs that you are currently taking even if they are not on the list.

Rabeprazole is supplied for individual use. Do not use it to treat other conditions not listed in the leaflet. Keep the product out of children reach. Do not reuse any disposable materials if supplied with the preparation.
