Guttalax is laxative preparation. It works by reducing the absorption of electrolytes and water, increasing intestinal peristalsis. Under the action of intestinal microorganisms sodium picosulfate is converted into its active form and irritate the receptors of bowel's wall, accelerating the movement of intestinal content. Guttalax exerts laxative action in 10-12 hours after application.

The side effects of Guttalax include: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain. In rare cases Guttalax may cause: water depletion, seizures, disorders of water-electrolyte balance, decreased blood pressure.
