The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Clomid manufactured by Maneesh pharmaceutical is available under commercial name Siphene.

How does Clomid work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Clomiphene citrate belongs to a group of drugs called anti-estrogens. The drugs in this group work by specifically binding to estrogen-dependent receptors in the hypothalamus and ovaries. The drug does not exert any gestagenic or androgenic activity. In low doses the drug increase secretion of gonadotropins, through decrease in blood circulating estrogen levels. However in large doses the secretion of gonadotropins may be suppressed.

Which conditions are treated with Clomiphene citrate?

The drug is used to stimulate ovulation in the following endocrine ovulation disorders:

• Anovular ovarian dysfunction
• Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
• Amenorrhea specific types (consult your doctor)

The drug may also be used in androgen deficiency, mammary gland cancer and in diagnostic of the gonadotropin function.

What should a patient know before using Clomid?

The Clomiphene should not be used in cases of:

• Pregnancy
• Benign and malignant neoplasia
• Organic CNS disorders
• Liver disease
• Bleeding
• Predisposition to clots formation

The drug may affect the patients psycho-motor reaction.

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Clomid include:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Flushing
• Dizziness
• Skin allergic reactions
• Psychasthenia
• Thromboembolic complications
• Vision impairment
• Ovary hyper-stimulation
• Menorrhagia
• Ovary enlargement
